This was one of my favorite weeks on So You Think You Can Dance in a long time. My favorite dances were Adechike with Lauren and Alex with Twitch. I think the lattter has quickly become one of my favorites of all time. Alex is phenomenal. He's got it all! Then on Thursday, I loved the replay of the dance with Mark and Courtney.
AND maybe most of all, the dance choreographed by Tabatha and Napoleon and Mandy Moore for the Cirque du Soleil dancers!!! It was beautifully patriotic, painting a picture of strong and competent American soldiers, male and female, and the 1940's American women in the colors of our flag. The musicality was fabulous. I thought it managed to remind of us that without our soldiers, we wouldn't have the freedoms that we do this 4th of July. That, to me, is dance at its best. Dance that communicates better than words on such a powerful subject as our soldiers fighting our battles without sentimentality.
SYTYCD wants to know what you plan to do for National Dance Day? "As part of his commitment to support dance education and physical fitness in the United States, Nigel Lythgoe is launching National Dance Day on "So You Think You Can Dance." National Dance Day will take place on July 31, 2010 and will include a variety of dance-themed activities for people of all ages. It will empower, challenge and inspire everyone to try various styles of dance ranging from hip-hop to ballroom to anything that moves. Above all, it will encourage everyone to DANCE as a means to stay fit and be healthy."
Submit your plans below and you may be contacted by the producers and mentioned in an episode of So You Think You Can Dance.
It's just too bad that Nigel didn't notice that we already had International Dance Day, established by the International Dance Council on April 29, 2010 and National Dance Week, APRIL 23 - MAY
2, 2010,
sponsored by the United Dance Merchants of America since 1991.
At any rate, I think July 31, 2010 would be a great day to dance. I'd love to hear about everyone's plans to dance that day, wherever and however.
