Yesterday I had the incredible opportunity to see a screening of Uchiyama's documentary about the life of an inspiring human being, Joe Gifford. Joe and Jill were both present to answer questions after the 1 hour documentary.
If you have the opportunity to see this film don't miss it. Joe had many pearls of wisdom to offer, both in the film and during the discussion after. Here were some gems:
- Quoting Doris Humphrey “It’s not what you put in, it’s what you take out."
- Personal vs. universal.
- Start from nothing.
- Almost everything we create, we create from resonance.
- 3 principles of life
- It takes time to develop self-confidence and trust, including spiritual confidence.
- We are not perfect.
- Don’t predict what’s going to happen.
- Hold your goal lightly in your hand.
- Fear nothing, face everything.
- Pursue excellence.
- It’s not about you, it’s about the music.
- There is giving, which comes back. It’s a circular thing - giving over and what’s in front of you? A wave of goodness that comes through - a sense of inner stillness.
Joe is 93. Don't wait.
